So I am back on the refined sugar in full force, a month cleanse did me good but, I just couldn’t resist any longer.

This led me to Le Pigeon a quaint french haunt off East Burnside and 9th Avenue. It was a night of dessert and wine only, which I didn’t mind in the slightest.

The brick walls and rustic tables with linen napkins and mismatched plates made me feel like I was back in France savoring a romantic dinner over wine and candlelight.  We started with delicate puff pastries filled with  foie ice cream then drizzled with warm carmel and dusted with powdered sugar and sea salt.  It was insane.   The balance of flavors and richness of the foie added to the ice cream made this far from a light dessert.

Next was the savory sweet apricot and bacon cornbread topped with a thick scoop of maple ice cream.  All I can say is this was delicious, and with out a doubt one of the best desserts I have ever eaten.  The tang of the apricot balanced with the salty bits of cured bacon, was like your favorite breakfast combo but enjoyed with a glass of Muscadet Sèvre et Maine instead of OJ.

We finished our affair with a devils food cake bombe, drizzled with creme anglaise.  Oh my god!  This was not only beautiful but perfectly satisfied my chocolate craving I had been going through this week.  It wasn’t too rich, actually had a surprising lightness and presented with perfection.

If you haven’t had the pleasure of hittin’ up  this Portland dig, you must put it off no longer.  http://www.lepigeon.com/

Happy Eating.
